We fixate on the beginning. We celebrate the end. But the magic lives in the middle. The sketch, the iterations, the struggles and the ways of working through them, that is what makes design alive. In a culture obsessed with productivity, we risk designing without feeling. We risk mistaking speed for substance. We risk losing the very thing that made us designers in the first place. I believe in design that evokes emotion. Design that explores. Design that takes the long way around when it matters. Because if we lose the joy of the process, what are we really making?
This design manifesto is a living document, a consistent work in process, that is taking many different forms. The most recent being a set of postcards. This quick, few day project reflects my passion for infusing my work with joy, handcraftedness, fun, functionality, and my heart and voice in everything that I make.
